Recap from Phuket Surf Contest 2023

The Phuket Surf Contest 2023 event brings together surfers from around the world in one of the best surf spots in Thailand, on Kata Beach, Phuket. Organized by the Thailand Surfing Federation, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. This event was much more than just a surf competition – there were workshops, concerts and throughout three days, 160 surfers from all over 14 countries worldwide got together.

Annissa Tita Flynn, NSP team rider from Thailand, participated in both the women’s shortboard and women’s longboard categories. Aou Settawut Chaiwat, also from Thailand, competed in the men’s longboard category.

Because the waves were relatively small, the Phuket Surf Contest schedule and heat assignments had to be changed. On the first day, Aou’s heat was moved from the afternoon session to the morning session. Since Anni emerged victorious in the previous competition at Memories Beach, Phang Nga, she earned a spot in the Quarter Finals. However, her longboard heat, originally scheduled for the second day, was postponed to the third day of the event. Consequently, she faced a hectic day of competition, participating in a total of six heats across two categories on the same day.

Surf Sup Warehouse Thailand organized the NSP Demo Day, offering free 30-minute testing sessions for various surfboards. The event showcased a range of boards including shortboards like the Chopstix 5’10”, mid-length boards like The Cheater 7’6″ and Butter Knife 8’6″, longboards such as Sleep Walker 9’8″, Longboard Elements 9’6 ,and Pro-9, and the surf-SUP board, DC Surf Super X.

Lastly, the Meet and Greet event hosted by Surf Sup Warehouse featured a fun little game with Aou and Anni.
