The peaceful strength as a weapon
1) You all impressed us this year, you had a great season! Please introduce yourself to the NSP community.
My name is Gabriel, I’m 20 years old and I come from a small village in south east France called Saint Tropez. Two years ago I went to live in the south west at Cap Breton, to study. Watersports are my passion, especially surfing which I’ve been enjoying for over 8 years now. I started with windsurfing and skateboarding when I was 11 years old and then moved to surf and SUP. The Mediterranean Sea is not the best place to surf but you can practice every watersport, the conditions can change suddenly from quiet to stormy within an hour. It pushes me to adapt.
2) What was your goal this year? And what’s next?
My two main challenges this year were the Eurotour, where I finished 14th overall, and the French Championship which is coming soon and I would like to be in the top 5. This year I also made it to the Pacific Paddle Games, I always wanted to participate in this race so big thanks to NSP to help make this dream comes true!
In January I’m going to study abroad so it’s going to be a bit more difficult to manage my training but I still want to participate in the Eurotour and at the PPG.
3) How did you get into racing?
I discovered SUP in the surfing club where I joined the “La Cigale Surf Club”. I always took the SUP boards with my friends when waves were not good enough to surf, it was the best way to spend some time on the water waiting for better conditions to surf. As the Mediterranean sea is often flat, I spent a lot of time SUPing. Every year the club organizes a race called “The SUP Race CUP” and Yannick Pinaud the president of the club insisted I participate, I was hooked and never stop racing!
4) You’re also a good surfer, when did you start surfing? Do you work on mastering specific tricks?
I started to surf when I was 12 years old. I surfed with my older brother and we went to south west coast as much as we could (the place to be in France for surfing). I’m not really working on any specific moves, but I’m working on aerials, it’s not succeeding yet, but one day…. My goal is to enjoy as much as I can and improve my surf every day!
5) What are your favorite spots?
For my race training I love going to the lake at Hossegor, it’s not too far from where I live. I love to paddle at St Tropez as well because the coastline is amazing. For Surf and SUP surf my favorite places are “la Graviere” and “Parlementia”
6) What is the NSP for you?
I love the team spirit at NSP, Titouan Puyo and Travis Grant are always friendly at every competition! Thanks again to Titouan and Travis for lending me their boards during the PPG!
I’m also very appreciative of the investment NSP spends on their R&D to improve their boards year after year, allowing us to always ride on top performing boards!
7) What else?
Thank you NSP for your great support and all the team who realized my dream to go to PPG: Alain Teurquetil, Jeramie Vaine, Ryan Guay! Have a maximum of fun on the water, that’s all matters!
